Serendipity celebrates second birthday with ambitious plans for future
Southampton’s Serendipity Centre has marked its second birthday by announcing ambitious plans for the future.
The first two years for the ground-breaking independent school have been so successful that Serendipity is planning a third extension to its Thornhill base and later this year will start rolling out its educational model and training to others. There are also plans to open a second school.
The highly successful centre is turning around the lives of its previously disengaged students, whose behavioural, emotional and social needs are too complex for state schools. Around 80 per cent of the 10 students are “looked after” and were permanently excluded from mainstream education.
Head teacher Sue Tinson said: “When I look at how much our students are achieving, not only educationally, but also in terms of their self-esteem and personal development, for me that is a measure of success. It has been a long, hard struggle to get where we are today, but we are delighted with what we have achieved in a relatively short space of time and are very much looking forward to the future.”
